On 16 October 1961, Ordinance No. 37 established the East Pakistan Agricultural Development Corporation (EPADC), now known as the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

As a subsidiary organization of the Ministry of Agriculture, BADC provides agricultural inputs and technologies to farmers and is committed to helping the country to become food self-sufficient and to play a continuing role in achieving food security for the people. The minor irrigation wing of BADC is working simultaneously to implement this commitment.

1. Services/Functions:

(Following Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Ordinance-1961, National Agricultural Policy 1999 and BADC Restructuring 1999)

1. Providing advice to the government on the formulation and implementation of necessary policies for the development of water resources for small irrigation development;

2. Introduction of mechanized farming methods and use of power pumps in irrigation;

3. Providing irrigation facilities through the installation of deep, shallow, and manual tube wells;

4. To implement national agricultural policies, programs, and projects through maximum utilization of own resources for the socio-economic development of the country;

5. To ensure the supply of agricultural inputs irrigation facility at a fair price for farmers in a competitive market and improve agricultural management to eliminate the problems arising at the farmer level due to the privatization of the distribution system of inputs;

6.. Training farmers on providing minor-irrigation facilities, improving irrigation management, expanding irrigation, and improving irrigation efficiency;

7. Water resource surveys, water quality testing, and information services;

8. Implementation of water resource development and efficient irrigation and water management (On Farm Water Management) program for minor-irrigation development;

9. Providing direction and evaluation of short, medium, and long-term projects for increasing irrigated area; And

10. Implementation of irrigation management in integrated and regional agricultural development and provision of emergency services in irrigation management.
